Childhood

Dandenong Ranges

As a child, Sherbrooke Forest was my connection with land, living at the foot of the Dandenong Ranges in Victoria.

Later, I was drawn to paintings of the Dandenongs by Fred Williams. His squiggles and splotches of paint perfectly expressed the resilient landscape.

Paul Cezanne

Early 20th century art, particularly of the impressionists, inspire my painting. Vibration of light and colour are important in my expression of the landscape.

Cezanne's clever use of planes of colour to give form to his subject, led me to Professor Jean-Maxime Relange at the Acadamie de Port Royal in Paris. Their teachings were strongly influenced by Cezanne's techniques.

Patterns & Textures

I use patterns and texture rather than details in my designs

Design Inspiration

Illustration & Pattern design

  • Arthur Rackham

Rackam's illustrations are realistic yet you know they are characters of fantasty. They are beautiful in design and composition with simple colours.

  • Lorenzo Mattotti

Contemporary Illustrator Mattotti has a unique style, renown in the fashion industry for his bold colours and flamboyant designs. His illustrations influence my colour palettes and pattern design.

  • Gustave Klimt

This retro print I designed was inspired by Klimt's art deco style. I have combined Australian Geraldton Wax botanicals into an organic geometric design.
